We’ve recently seen an increase in Kijiji sellers receiving Interac Money Requests like the example below. Be very careful: these are not payments—you are being asked to send money to the scammer, not receive it.
If you click “Accept Request”, you will be sending money to the fraudulent buyer instead of receiving payment for your item. Once the money is sent, it cannot be recovered.
Although these requests are technically legitimate Interac requests, the wording is different from an Interac Payment, which is used to receive funds. Scammers are deliberately trying to trick sellers into sending them money.
Do not click on these links. If you receive a suspicious request, report it immediately to your bank and the police.
