Kijiji Jobs Code of Conduct
When posting or replying to job ads on Kijiji, all users must follow Kijiji’s job posting rules as well as our general posting policies.
1. Prohibited Jobs
The following types of jobs cannot be advertised on Kijiji:
- Pyramid schemes or jobs requiring upfront or ongoing payments.
- Jobs paid solely by commission, unless the ad clearly states that commission is the only source of compensation and provides a detailed description of the product or service being sold.
- Jobs involving sexual activities.
- Ads that are unclear about the type of work required.
2. General Requirements
- Multi-level marketing jobs must be posted as a Professional Employer ad.
- Requesting photos as part of a job application is prohibited.
- Discrimination based on the following is strictly prohibited:
- Race, national or ethnic origin, colour, religion
- Age, gender, sexual orientation
- Marital or family status, pregnancy
- Disability
- Criminal convictions for which a pardon has been granted or a record suspension has been ordered
- Replies to job ads are only permitted for legitimate recruitment purposes.
- Responses for personal reasons or for sexual or otherwise inappropriate purposes are strictly prohibited and may result in account suspension or loss of access to Kijiji.
3. Compliance with Quebec Language Laws
For jobs posted in Quebec, the following may apply:
- Section 41 of the Quebec Charter of the French Language: Employers must publish job offers in French.
- Section 46 of the Charter: If an employer requires knowledge of a language other than French for a position, the ad must provide the reason for this requirement.
4. Model, Acting, or Talent Jobs
Ads for modeling, acting, or other talent-based work must meet the following requirements:
- Must be posted from a professional business email domain. Free email domains (e.g., Gmail, Hotmail) are not permitted.
- Must include agency information, including company name and a valid phone number.
- Should clearly outline job responsibilities, expected compensation, and working conditions.
5. Best Practices for Job Ads
- Use clear and precise language to describe responsibilities, required qualifications, and compensation.
- Ensure ads adhere to all employment laws, including human rights and anti-discrimination legislation.
- Include contact information for legitimate recruitment purposes only.
- Avoid misleading language or promises that may confuse or misrepresent the role.
- Ensure professionalism in posting, formatting, and communication with applicants.
6. Enforcement
Kijiji reserves the right to:
- Remove any job ad that violates this Code of Conduct or applicable laws.
- Suspend or terminate accounts that repeatedly violate job posting rules.
- Monitor flagged ads to maintain a safe, transparent, and professional job marketplace.
