📱 Avoiding SMS / WhatsApp Delivery & Payment Scams

Important: Kijiji does NOT currently offer delivery services and is not affiliated with any third-party delivery or direct payment service.

Fraudsters may try to contact you via WhatsApp, SMS, or QR codes claiming they can provide delivery or payment services. These are scams.

🚨 What to watch for
  • Messages claiming the buyer can arrange delivery or pick up your item for you.
  • Requests to scan a QR code or enter your payment details online.
  • Links that appear to be Kijiji but are fraudulent, e.g.,

https://kijiji.ca.free-delivery.com
This looks legitimate but is not Kijiji.

Legitimate Kijiji links always start with: https://kijiji.ca/

Any extra period or domain after .ca is likely a phishing attempt.

🧠 How to protect yourself
  • Do NOT click on links from unknown sources or scan QR codes.
  • Never enter payment details on websites you did not verify.
  • 📞 End the conversation immediately if the user insists on delivery or unusual payment methods.
  • 🏦 If you shared payment info, contact your bank or credit card provider immediately to prevent fraud.
  • 🔒 Keep all communication on Kijiji to make it easier for us to detect suspicious activity.
  • 📝 Report suspicious messages or links here so Kijiji can block the fraudsters.

👍 Best practices
  • Only accept payment in person when meeting the buyer.
  • Avoid any third-party delivery offers — Kijiji does not provide delivery or handle payments.
  • Trust your instincts — if something seems off, walk away from the transaction.
